Susan老师毕业于天津财经大学，持有加拿大 Dawson College与魁北克孔子学院联合颁发的汉语教学证书，曾在新加坡和加拿大从事多年儿童及成人中文教学，具有丰富的跨文化中文教学经验。

教学理念

课堂采用沉浸式、互动式教学，注重中文学习的趣味性和实用性。通过游戏、图片、视频、音频和情景互动，让学生在轻松、有趣的环境中自然接触和使用中文。

About the Teacher

Susan graduated from Tianjin University of Finance and Economics and holds a Certificate in Teaching Chinese Language, jointly awarded by Dawson College and the Confucius Institute in Quebec, Canada. She has many years of experience teaching Chinese to both children and adults in Singapore and Canada, with extensive experience in cross-cultural language education.

Teaching Philosophy

Susan uses an immersive and interactive approach, with an emphasis on making Chinese learning both engaging and practical. Through games, images, videos, audio materials, and real-life scenarios, students are encouraged to experience and use Chinese naturally in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

Her teaching emphasizes listening and speaking first, with practical communication at its core. Students are encouraged to speak with confidence and learn through real communication, while gradually developing their reading and writing skills.

Recommended for Grades K–2

Singapore Math 1 introduces foundational mathematical concepts through visual models, hands-on activities, and step-by-step problem-solving. The course develops number sense, arithmetic skills, patterns, measurement, and early mathematical reasoning.

The course uses Math in Focus 1A, 1B, and 2A, covering approximately first-grade mathematics through the first half of second-grade mathematics. Compared with many public-school math classes, the computational topics are generally at a similar grade level, but the problems often require deeper conceptual understanding and more multistep reasoning. The course may be advanced for kindergarten and early first-grade students while providing reinforcement and enrichment for second-grade students.

Recommended for Grades 2–3

Singapore Math 2 helps students strengthen their arithmetic foundation and develop more systematic problem-solving skills. Topics include place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measurement, geometry, and word problems.

The course uses Math in Focus 2B, 3A, and 3B, covering approximately the second half of second-grade mathematics through third-grade mathematics. It may be more advanced than regular public-school math for many second-grade students. For third-grade students, the general topics are grade-appropriate, but the course often explores them in greater depth and includes more challenging word problems.

Recommended for Grades 3–4

Singapore Math 3 develops computational fluency and introduces students to more advanced multistep problem-solving. Topics may include multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, geometry, measurement, and challenging word problems.

The course uses Math in Focus 4A, 4B, and 5A, covering approximately fourth-grade mathematics through the first half of fifth-grade mathematics. It is generally advanced for third-grade students and provides accelerated or enriched instruction for fourth-grade students. Even when the topics overlap with public-school math, the Singapore Math approach typically requires more careful reasoning and application.

Recommended for Grades 5-6

Pre-MATHCOUNTS 1 introduces students to pre-algebra concepts and prepares them for more advanced mathematical thinking. The course focuses on the more accessible foundational topics from AoPS Prealgebra, representing approximately 40% of the book.

AoPS Prealgebra examines mathematical concepts in substantially greater depth than a typical public-school pre-algebra textbook. Although this first level begins with the more accessible material, students should expect nonroutine problems that require explanation, persistence, and flexible thinking rather than the direct application of a memorized formula.

Recommended for Grades 5–6

Pre-MATHCOUNTS 2 continues the study of pre-algebra with an emphasis on the more challenging topics from AoPS Prealgebra, representing approximately 60% of the book. The course strengthens algebraic reasoning, number theory, geometry, and problem-solving skills.

The material is generally more challenging and explored in greater depth than standard public-school math at the same grade levels. Students will encounter unfamiliar problems that may combine several concepts and require them to develop their own solution strategies.

Recommended for Grades 5–6

Pre-MATHCOUNTS 2 continues the study of pre-algebra with an emphasis on the more challenging topics from AoPS Prealgebra, representing approximately 60% of the book. The course strengthens algebraic reasoning, number theory, geometry, and problem-solving skills while preparing students for MATHCOUNTS-level mathematics.

MATHCOUNTS 1 introduces students to middle-school competition mathematics. Using AoPS Competition Math for Middle School, the course covers the more accessible foundational material, representing approximately 40% of the book. Students will practice arithmetic, algebra, geometry, counting, probability, and logical problem-solving while learning useful competition strategies.

Recommended for Grades 7–8

MATHCOUNTS 2 / AMC 8 is designed for students ready for more advanced middle-school competition mathematics. Using AoPS Competition Math for Middle School, the course focuses on the more challenging material, representing approximately 60% of the book. Students will develop speed, accuracy, mathematical reasoning, and advanced problem-solving strategies in preparation for MATHCOUNTS and AMC 8 competitions.

Eden He is a 12th-grade student at Garnet Valley High School and an accomplished competitive mathematician. He placed among the top 10 in the Pennsylvania MATHCOUNTS State Competition, earned Distinguished Honor Roll recognition in both the AMC 8 and AMC 10, and is a three-time AIME qualifier. In 2026, he earned a Bronze Award at the USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO). This is Eden’s fourth year teaching the AMC 8 class at DCCS, where he draws on his extensive competition and teaching experience to help students strengthen their problem-solving skills.

Zifeng Zang is an abstract artist and art educator active in the Greater Philadelphia area. She holds Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from Jilin University in China and West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Her work has been exhibited at Muse Gallery, InLiquid Gallery, The Delaware Contemporary, and other arts institutions, and she has presented solo exhibitions at Muse Gallery. She is also an artist member of Muse Gallery and InLiquid and was selected for The Delaware Contemporary’s 2024 Artist-in-Residence Program.

Her students have received national recognition, including Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Yuying Chen is an independent dance artist, dancer, choreographer, and dance educator based in the Greater Philadelphia area. She holds an MFA in Dance from Temple University and is also a certified yoga instructor. Her practice spans contemporary dance, Chinese classical and folk dance, improvisation, yoga, and movement education. She began her professional dance training in childhood and has continued to pursue dance as the foundation of her artistic and professional career.

She has taught undergraduate dance courses as a guest artist at Wichita State University, including Contemporary Dance Technique, Choreography, and Improvisation. She has also performed professionally with dance companies and contributed to artistic and administrative work involving creation, rehearsal, and performance. In addition, she has extensive teaching experience in community programs and private dance studios, working with students of different ages in Chinese Classical Dance, Chinese Folk Dance, Ballet, and Contemporary Dance. As a choreographer, her original works have received recognition in dance competitions and have been presented at arts festivals.

Drawing from both Eastern and Western movement traditions, as well as her training in yoga and somatic practices, Yuying’s artistic and educational practice explores the intersection of technique, creativity, body awareness, and human expression. Whether performing, choreographing, or teaching, she is dedicated to cultivating inclusive learning environments that encourage curiosity, confidence, and artistic growth, while inspiring individuals to develop authentic forms of expression and a lifelong connection to movement.
